Hayward Small Business Owner? Here Are 6 Grants and Programs You Should Know About Right Now
Running a small business in the Bay Area is not for the faint of heart. Between rising costs, intense competition, and constantly shifting consumer behavior, every advantage matters. The good news: if your business is based in Hayward, you have access to more support than you might realize — and a city government that has won eight International Economic Development Council (IEDC) awards since 2021 for its innovative business programs.
Here's what's available right now and how to take advantage of it.
1. The Hashtag Hayward Grant Program
This is one of the most creative small business programs in the East Bay — and it's back for a second round after overwhelming demand.
What it is: A city-funded grant that helps Hayward small businesses build their social media presence, upgrade their storefronts, and connect with local influencers and muralists. The first round generated over 3 million views across platforms for participating businesses, with an average of 200,000 views per business and follower count increases of up to 3,000.
What you can use it for:
- A-frame or blade signs to attract foot traffic
- Seating, wayfinding, and lighting improvements
- Website and social media upgrades
- Connections to local influencers for promotional collaborations
- Mural commissions to make your space social-media ready
